Here’s an interesting story I came across: Woman Saves $12,000 By Collecting Fives. It sure is a creative way to save. It’s similar to a change jar or a piggybank, but instead of change and $1 bills, it’s $5 bills and instead of whatever change you have, it’s all of those bills that pass through her hands. Furthermore, I applaud her for regularly plowing that money into CDs and having her money work for her*. All in all, she was able to save that amount in only 3 years. For somebody who was previously unable to save money, that’s quite an accomplishment. And I bet she didn’t even notice it.
So if you have trouble saving money, I encourage you try this out. It doesn’t have to be fives either. It could be all the ones, tens, Sacagawea dollars, etc. Experiment to see what works best for you.
* I wonder if she considered other places to put that money such as stocks and bonds.
