Some typical advice to save money here and there is to skimp on daily indulgences such as coffee, doughnuts, ice cream, going out for lunch, or going out to bars. But whatever the advice may say, it’s darn near impossible to cut out all of our vices just for the sake of saving money. Because of this, it’s rare for anyone to follow the advice for long.
So what to do? I think the solution is to compromise: one vice a day. Just one doughnut, just one Butterfinger. I think by indulging just once a day and not having to go cold turkey would be much less of a strain on your willpower and increase your chances of sticking with it. If you already indulge only once a day or even less, you could try reducing the frequency to just once every other day or 3 days. Hopefully, this strategy not only saves you a bit of money, but also increases your discipline.
If anybody tries this, let me know how it goes. I’m going to test this out myself since I’m trying to slim down a bit so this will serve as a dieting tactic as well. Two birds, one stone. Oh, how I love efficiency. Now I just have to stick to it. We’ll see how that goes.
